reloading .44 Magnum, recommendations?
I'm not new to reloading, but I am new to this caliber. never thought I'd end up with a .44 mag. they shouldn't of priced it so low. (its one of those impulse buys that while it gun was an excellent deal I end up spending a ton of money on it and regretting the buy)
anyone have handy information of cheapest 240 grain bullets?
.44 magnum brass?
I have power pistol & titegroup powders, and a large supply of large pistol magnum primers.
And load data from Alliant for Power Pistol & 240 grain bullet.
If you don't want to give me a good link can you please at least tell me about what is a good price?

I reload lots of 44 special and 44 magnum ammo. Its late and I’m burnt but I have a few tips.
Invest in a bullet mold for 240 gr wad cutter or the Elmer Keith style lead bullet. Quench them as soon as the come out of the mold with ice cold water. Then run them through a bullet sizer. Next load them for a medium velocity like 900 ft per sec. These will not lead up the bore like soft lead will and the penetrate very well. When you get them over 1200 ft per sec they will start leading up the bore again. You have to find that honey spot.
Another tip, use a quality bullet lube this will reduce leading.
To go cheap on powder use Red Dot because it only take about 6 grains for a nice load and that makes your powder last longer.
For balls to the walls loads use 2400 or 296.
Be sure to make a nice firm roll crimp with lead bullets esp. when using 2400 or 296 powder.
Trim back casing that are over length, this is very important with many different loads where too much room inside the casing can create high pressure spikes.
To save money on lead, use wheel weights.
Try the 44 special loads out. You can load them hot or tame. I have some SWC 44 special rounds that clock out less than 800 ft per sec and are fun for plinking and small game hunting.
You can also load your own 44 magnum bird shot rounds. There are directions on the web how to do this. They work well out to 10 -12 feet for barn rats and mice or snakes.
When you buy components buy in bulk to save cash. Never store primers with the powder. Only have the powder can your using on the bench to prevent mix ups. Check your loaded ammo about every 3 round with a quality scale before you install the bullet to be sure.
Make sure your primer pocket is clean as this will prevent a primer sticking out enough to bind the cylinder.
You can buy once fired brass in bulk for a discount.
Once you’re set up and are making your own cast bullets the cost per round can be as low as 35 cents if you already have the brass.
